ABSTRACT: Il presente contributo, nel ricostruire le principali tappe del lungo e travagliato percorso volto alla regolamentazione dell’aborto in Irlanda e Irlanda del Nord, intende marcare la rilevanza dei passi compiuti in contesti compressi dall’egemonia della religione cattolica. La necessità di esaltare le due esperienze prende le mosse proprio dalla perdita di potere della Chiesa, da sempre avversiva a qualsiasi procedura o servizio lesivo del diritto alla vita del nascituro. I casi irlandese e nord-irlandese si pongono da modello rispetto a quelle realtà che risentono profondamente dell’influenza d’oltreoceano, ove il ricorso alla procedura di interruzione volontaria di gravidanza da parte delle donne risulta sempre più arduo.
This contribution, in reconstructing the main stages of the long and troubled journey to regulate abortion in Ireland and Northern Ireland, aims to highlight the relevance of the complete steps in contexts compressed by the hegemony of the Catholic religion. The need to exalt the two experiences stems precisely from the loss of power of the Church, which has always been hostile to any procedure or service that impairs the right to life of the unborn. The Irish and Northern Irish cases are a model for those realities deeply affected by overseas influence, where women’s recourse to the voluntary abortion procedure is increasingly difficult.
